Homes Sold in 2006

The Year of Peaking Prices started off well in the early months with a still “hot & spicy” real estate market with buyers urgently stirring up bidding wars, but by year’s end the top business story hitting the headlines was the decline of the housing market. Buyers didn’t have choice from either Menu A or Menu B but encountered a sizzling market reaching unaffordable price levels here in DC and the rest of the country for a good chunk of the year. But the cost was out of reach for many buyers, creating a market that was unsustainable and starting to show signs of a slowdown. It WAS too good to be true and the flourishing real estate boom days were over as the year ended with both buyers and sellers not sure which way the market was headed.
