Homes Sold in 2004

DC and the rest of the country entered The Year of the Mad, Mad, Mad World of Real Estate. It definitely was a madcap pursuit of the riches as buyers realized they could get bigger and better with the lure of McMansions in the outer DC suburbs or high-end luxury condos with a view of the Washington skyline. This crazy world had lenders creating new-fangled loan opportunities, affordable mortgages with 0% down, and inventory galore to choose from. Selling a house was as easy as putting a “For Sale” sign out and watching buyers bid up the price as homes sold for more than they were worth and neighbors shook their heads in disbelief. These were unbelievably good times since real estate was helping to bolster the economy since it still felt the aftershocks of the 2002 stock crisis. However, the housing market was really entering a comedy of errors that was no laughing matter.
